Healthy Eats: Spinach Tortellini Soup

A quick and easy recipe, this Spinach Tortellini Soup is delicious! I love the comfort of a hot, tasty soup on a cold Spring (still feels like Winter) night.

Prep Time: 15 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients:
– 1 (10oz) package frozen chopped spinach
– 1 (9oz) package spinach cheese tortellini
– (15-20oz) chicken broth
– 1/4 tablespoon basil leaves
– 1/4 tablespoon garlic powder
– salt and pepper to taste

Procedures:
1 – Combine chicken broth and spinach in a large pot over high heat until boiling.

2 – Reduce heat to low, add spinach tortellini. Season with salt, pepper, garlic, and basil, simmer for 10-15min.

Optional – Modify this recipe by adding your favorite veggies like carrots, peas, and celery… Enjoy!

Side Kicks Series

Teaching Paige Fraser, dancer for Visceral Dance Chicago, Side Kicks Series with variations. Side Kicks are excellent for toning and strengthening the inner and outer thighs, hips, and glutes (aka booty). Développé is a ballet inspired variation of the side kicks series.

Exercise: Développé

Step 1 – Lie on side, hips and shoulders stacked one on top of the other, head propped up (or down) on hand, legs slightly forward, abdominals engaged.

Step 2 – Rotate top leg into a turned out position, knee pointing up towards ceiling, bend the top leg so the toe drags along inner thigh of bottom leg up to knee.

Step 3 – Extend top leg up towards ceiling, lower the leg back to starting position, engaging inner thighs as you lower, repeat 4-8x.

My 5 Favs – March

March has been all about moisturizing and exfoliating as the weather is still cold in NYC! Here are my 5 favorite beauty products for this month.

1 – Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub ($6.99)
This gentle exfoliating scrub is great for keeping my face smooth and glowing throughout the year.

2 – Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious Mascara ($7.99)
New from Revlon, Lash Potion mascara is infused with strengthening proteins and creates “spellbinding” volume and “supernatural” length to lashes. I agree that it adds length and definitely makes my eyes pop.

3 – Vanilla + Bergamot Body Buff with shea butter + sweet almond oil by Bliss ($38)
I love this Body Buff and use it when I want to have a spa-like treatment at home. It smells delicious and makes my skin feel super soft.

4 – Nivea Creme ($9.29)
This classic body cream is great for anyone with dry skin that needs extra moisture. I love it during Winter but opt for the lighter Nivea Soft Creme during warmer months.

5 – Felted Soap in Pink Grapefruit by Khushi Spa ($15)
These hand felted soaps act as a soap and wash cloth in one. Wrapped in the anti-fungal, anti-microbial, and anti-bacterial fibers of wool, this soap exfoliates your skin and has the lovely, refreshing scent of pink grapefruit.

Dudes do Pilates

Bmx riders are known not only for their amazing tricks but also for the many injuries they get performing them. I had the pleasure of introducing Mike Hoder, bmx rider extraordinaire, to the Pilates method after he injured his knee in a bike accident.

Here are a few of the exercises I taught Mike:

1 – Leg Springs: Leg springs are an excellent tool for building lower body strength and are usually safe for clients recovering from knee injuries that are unable to do squats and lunges during the beginning of recovery.

2 – Hundred: Hundred is a great exercise for building core strength. Although Mike’s knee was injured during his bike accident, all movements come from the center of the body so it is important to build strength in this area.

3 – Lower Lift: Lower lift is one of 5 exercises in the abdominal series that is essential in core strengthening.

Healthy Eats: Avocado Dip

Avocados are an excellent source of fiber, protein, and vitamins. Make this tasty Avocado Dip as an appetizer!

Prep Time:5 minutes
Serves: 4

Ingredients:
– 2 avocados
– 3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
– 2 garlic cloves, chopped
– lemon juice
– cilantro, chopped
– salt and pepper to taste

Procedures:
1 – Mash avocado in bowl, add Greek yogurt, cilantro, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste.

Serve with your favorite raw veggies and pita chips… Enjoy!
