Sun AM Practice 2.22

(Photo by Fitness Magazine from my March 2015 feature)

After a week of multiple yoga, dance, and gymnastics classes, I am finally giving my body one day of rest (sort of)! However, even on what I consider to be a day of rest, I do a few stretches and seated meditation in the morning before I start my day. Here is today’s practice:

* shoulder bridge x3

* hundred

* roll up

* rollover

* yogi squat 3 breaths

* forward fold 3 breaths

* Sun A x3

* Sun B x3

* yogi squat 3 breaths

* boat pose 3 breaths

* reverse table top 3 breaths

(repeat 2 above x2)

* rolling like a ball

* abdominal series

* swimming

* cat cow 3 breaths

* downdog 3 breaths

* child’s pose 3 breaths

* seated meditation 3min

* Fin

And oh yeah… There was a little interruption during my practice.

My 5 Favs (+5): Feb/March

Although my fit life includes lots of sweating on my yoga mat and in Pilates and fitness studios all over NYC, I always try to look my best by using the top beauty products on the market. Here are my 5 favorite (+5) picks for this month.

1 — Burt’s Bees Lip Shine in Whisper ($7)

I love to keep my lips moisturized with a natural gloss throughout the day. This gloss is enriched with apricot wax and sunflower seed oil which keeps my lips moist and has a shiny finish.

2 — Olive Oil Mud Soap by Sabon ($6.80)

Made with olive, coconut, and aromatic oils and herbs, this mud soap is gentle and nurturing for the skin. It contains Dead Sea mud which works as an antiseptic suitable especially for oily skin. After a full day of sweating I enjoy using this soap as it cleanses and moisturizes my skin.

3 — Khushi Spa Solid Body Butter ($16, 2.5 oz)

After my morning and evening showers, I apply this sweet smelling geranium and lavender body butter to keep my skin soft. Made with palm kernel oil, cocoa butter, Shea butter, and grape seed oil, this formula is good for nourishing dry skin while also enhancing relaxation with the scent of lavender.

4 — “That’s Hula-Rious!” Nail Color by OPI ($9.50)

I adore this pastel mint green nail color by OPI. From their Hawaii 2015 Collection, this shade is sure to make you feel like you are on a tropical island even when there is a snowstorm on the first day of Spring in NYC!

5 — Revlon Photo Ready Cream Blush in Flushed ($13.99)

Photo ready is right as this blush created my lovely rosey cheeks in my latest fitness shoot.

6 — Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF15 in Warm Honey ($48)

Though I do not wear foundation on a daily basis it is always applied to my face for photo and video shoots. This foundation is great for my normal to oily skin and really creates a natural looking finish.

7 — Makeup Forever Super Matte Loose Powder ($28, 10g)

This ultra-fine, transparent powder is applied to my skin after the foundation to set my look. It is non-drying and appropriate for all skin types and keeps my face looking clean and clear on camera.

8 — Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette ($54)

This palette consists of 12 gorgeous bronze-hued neutral shadows that can look amazing on everyone. It is versatile because of the variety of textures including matte and glitter so can be used for the office, a night out with friends, and even a for photo shoot.

9 — Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Expresso ($25)

This best selling and award-winning eyeliner is a gel-based formula that goes on smoothly and precisely for a long-lasting wear. It can be worn both day and night (and for my recent photo shoot lol).

10 — CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara by LashBlast in Very Black ($7.99)

 I wear mascara almost everyday and I like how this one adds volume without clumping. I apply 2 coats to my upper lashes and wear a neutral lip gloss for a simple look.

Tropical Tumeric Smoothie Recipe

Turmeric is a plant that is ground into a spice commonly used in Indian and Thai curry dishes and to color foods like mustard and cheese. It is known as an anti-inflammatory and used to treat a variety of conditions including arthritis, heartburn, headache, stomach pain, colds, and liver and kidney problems.

Although the warm, bitter flavor of turmeric goes well in spicy dishes, it can also be added to smoothies. Try my Tropical Turmeric Smoothie Recipe below which is a perfect blend of sweet and spicy. Enjoy!

– 2 chunks pineapple

– 1/2 banana

– 1/2 mango

– 1/4 cup of oats

– 1 tsp turmeric powder

– 1 tsp cinnamon

– 1 tsp coconut oil

– 1 tsp ginger

– 1 tsp chia seeds

– 1 cup almond milk

– juice of 1/2 lemon

– 2 cubes of ice

Pilates Angel Shoot: Behind the Scenes Video

Being a model was not an aspiration for me but just like teaching, I fell into it naturally and realized that I could use it as a platform to inspire people. Although modeling is fun, each production takes time, preparation, and a team effort to be successful. My goal in making this video was to show not just the glamorous aspect of getting my makeup done and the pretty final images. I wanted to highlight the teamwork, the laughter, the times where I flip out of poses after holding them while the photographer changes the lens, the lighting, the angle of a shot and doing it again when my Virgo perfectionist a$$ is not satisfied with the outcome. (run-on sentence)

My yoga teacher teased me the other day because he knew that his class was my 3rd of the day on my not so lazy Saturday. Training consistently is how I maintain my strength, flexibility, and endurance to get through these shoots. In my world, there is no such thing as preparing for bikini season when the weather starts to get warm. Every season is bikini season and if I get a phone call to do a shoot I always have to be ready.

This video is a behind the scenes look at my latest project. Hope you enjoy it!
